The Practice
My work is an exploration of spatial depth and materiality, situated at the intersection of traditional painting and contemporary industrial processes. Drawing on a reductive aesthetic, I investigate the tension between the physical surface and the perceived celestial or atmospheric void. My practice seeks to capture the "unseen"—the light, the air, and the vastness of the cosmos—and anchor it into a physical, tactile form.
The Process
The work is constructed through a rigorous, multi-layered methodology. Utilising optically clear resin as both a structural and conceptual element, I suspend pigments and mixed media within a literal "stratigraphy" of layers. This process allows me to manipulate light and shadow in three dimensions, creating a "visual parallax" where the artwork shifts and evolves as the viewer moves around it. By stripping away the superfluous, I focus on the purity of colour theory and the physical weight of the void. The resulting pieces are not merely windows into another space, but physical objects that occupy the room with a quiet, powerful presence.
The Philosophy
In a world of digital saturation, my work seeks to reclaim the "slow look." Influenced by the vastness of the space and the precision of modernist abstraction, I aim to create a meditative experience that invites the viewer to look through the surface rather than merely at it. Each piece is a balance of control and spontaneity—a calculated dance between the fluid, unpredictable nature of the resin and the intentionality of the mark. It is an invitation to pause, to breathe, and to find a moment of stillness within the depth.
